Chirp Chirp Chewy

Homemade Chewy Granola Bars

  • 90g oats
  • 95g sugar
  • 1/2 tsp salt
  • 1/4 tsp cinnamon, or other desires spices (nutmeg, cardamon)
  • additions: dried mixed fruit, coconut chunks, seeds, nuts, flax meal, dates, chocolate chips…
  • 60g peanut butter
  • 90ml olive oil
  • 60ml maple syrup
  • 1 tbsp water

  1. Preheat the oven to 180 degrees C. Line a square or rectangular baking dish with parchment paper, and grease lightly.
  2. Stir together all dry ingredients
  3. Whisk together the wet ingredients before adding them to the dry mixture until well combined
  4. Spread the mixture into the baking dish, pressing firmly into the sides and corners until the top is even
  5. Bake for around 30 minutes, until the top starts to brown. Thicker bars will take longer, depending on the pan size. The edges will become a deep golden colour and they may feel underdone in the centre, but will firm nicely as they cool
  6. Let them cool in the pan for at least 20 minutes, then take them out with the parchment and leave to cool completely on a wire rack before cutting

  1. I like homemade granola bars as it does not have preservatives and control portion on sugar. This recipe is wonderfully balanced. Very delicious looking. And it’s making me really hungry.
